Data backup

Data backup comprises the data (cold data) saved in Datastore and can be carried out both automatically and manually.

The view can be reloaded at any time using the "Update" icon.

The data backup data is written to the following directory:

  • “c:\smartwareData\BACKUP” (Windows®)

  • “~/smartWAREBackup” (Linux)

Automatic

Automatic data backup is activated using a slider.

image-20250708-111547.png

If data backup is activated, new data is automatically saved as a backup as soon as it is transferred from the device to JUMO smartWARE Evaluation.

When activating the automatic data backup, a message may appear, which indicates that the data backup was no longer active from a certain point in time. This message queries whether the data received since this point in time should be saved.

This message must be confirmed with "Yes" or "No". If the message is confirmed with "Yes", manual data backup starts automatically from the point in time specified in the message.

Manual

Imported data can be manually saved. A manual data backup is useful if process data has already been recorded in JUMO smartWARE Evaluation before data backup (Windows®, Linux) was configured.

The date from which all data should be saved is selected using the calendar function. Manual saving is initiated using the "Start data backup" button. The process can be aborted at any time using the "Stop" button.

Files that have already been saved are not saved automatically again by JUMO smartWARE Evaluation.

The following information is specified during the last or current manual data backup process:

Information

Description

Ended at

The date and time at which data backup was finished are specified.

Started at

The date and time at which data backup was started are specified.

Saved files

The number of files already saved is specified.

Remaining files

The number of remaining files is specified.

Status

The status of the process is specified:

  • Data backup in progress

  • Cancelled

  • Error

  • Successful

File error

The number of files with errors is specified. The associated error list can be shown.

Restore

Data from a data backup can be restored. The restore process takes place in three steps:

  1. Re-registration of archived data

  2. Preparation of the restore directory

  3. Restore data

If the system needs to be set up again, the system can be started with an empty Datastore.

The system can already receive files from devices in this state. The restore of data from a data backup in the already-running system takes place in a separate step.

Re-registration of archived data

If a system is set up again, the data from an existing archive must be re-registered first. This step is required in order to access the archive. A restore of the data from a data backup saved in the archive is not required in this case.

In order for the system to identify the archived data, re-registering of the archived data must take place before the restore of data.

Re-registration is initiated using the "Start registration" button. The process can be aborted at any time using the "Stop" button.

Preparation of the restore directory

The data backup data is written to the following directory:

  • “c:\smartwareData\BACKUP” (Windows®)

  • “~/smartWAREBackup” (Linux)

All files that are to be restored must be copied to the relevant restore directory for the restore. The directory structure must be adopted without any changes here:

  • “c:\smartwareData\RESTORE” (Windows®)

  • “~/smartWARERestore” (Linux)

The copying process must be carried out by the system administrator outside JUMO smartWARE Evaluation at the system level.

Restore data

Data from a data backup is imported into the system. The data to be restored must be located in the restore directory. Archived data is not restored.

The date from which all data should be restored is selected using the calendar function. The restore process is initiated using the "Start restore" button. The process can be aborted at any time using the "Stop" button.

image-20250709-051443.png

After the restore, the restored data must be manually deleted from the restore directory.

Log files

JUMO smartWARE Evaluation actions are saved in log files.

image-20250708-094830.png

The scope of the log files can be set under log level. Either the "Normal" or "Detailed" levels can be selected. The current setting is highlighted in dark-blue.

"Normal" is recommended for reasons of disk space.
